When the 2343 Sante Fe F units showed up under the Christmas Tree 74 years ago, that was it. Hands down the Sante Fe. Same story here. Not 74 years ago but close. As time has moved on I have come to love the Amtrak lines. Despite the enormous obstacles for modern passenger trains Amtrak has survived and I have the chance to ride this line occasionally.

Favorite Railroad Name? Why that would be the Illinois Central - Mainline of Mid America. However, like most other people, I can't just pick a favorite so for modeling purposes, you can also add Chicago & Northwestern, Chicago & Eastern Illinois, Wabash and lastly, Santa Fe. C&NW and IC E6's Above. C&NW E4 Hudson Above Santa Fe F7 Above Here is one of my Covid projects that I have not got to yet. Turn the UP E7 into the Wabash E7 (Engine #1002 as seen in the image). I have the paint, decals and just about everything else except the number boards. I might take this on in the spring. Charlie

There are tons of beautiful paint schemes. It’s hard to narrow. It down. But I do have prejudices for the Erie, Lackawanna . Erie Lackawanna, Long Island and Jersey central. I also love all the little short lines that worked the New York harbor. I despise Santa Fe and up

N and W. Grandfather from Roanoke, worked there then moved to Suffolk. I was born in Bluefield, moved to Suffolk, school in Blacksburg. N and W/ NS has been an almost everyday sight and sound. We count the trains that come thru at night.
Also Seaboard, Southern, C and O/Chessie, Virginian, as all came thru or come thru town.
Want to know how busy the port is, sit here and watch the trains.

Bill, I use to live in a trailer park in Newport News, VA. and one of N/S work shops was right behind the trailer park. I could watch them moving engines, freight cars in and out of there for repairs.

I prefer THE PENN AMERICAN RAILROAD. Truthfully, I don’t have an absolute favorite road name. If I like a livery then I buy it. I like them all!! But a large part of my collection are Pennsylvania Railroad and Amtrak. Since I grew up a few minutes away from the Northeast Corridor.

The Boston and Albany is quirky favorite of mine. I’d like to see more B&A offerings.

I could watch them moving engines, freight cars in and out of there for repairs. We were both lucky to have them close. I have never thought about trains being too far away to at least hear. It would be like when the planes stopped flying. Paula and I remarked an hour ago about how the trains are running late this morning. We heard three come thru. We hear another one now.
