All I can say is Whoa, wow... and WOW!
Happy to say I have a Santa Fe 2-10-10-2 so no need to shell out the big buck here!
So first thing is first. I am not quite happy with Ryan. After 2 pitchers of beers and a couple of shots, he lead me astray! And I quote " We will not make the UP veranda turbine again due to its high die cast tooling cost and electronic complexity to assemble" … ah yeah... thanks for the tip... I should have bought him a higher proof whiskey!
So I am going to sell my old UP turbine for a great price and upgrade to the new... any takers shoot me a message.
These are fantastic looking!
If I had mo' money I would buy one in every color... look at these! Love thee nose art on the military version...
I love the SP version... ah man I need a money tree. And look at the Denver and Rio Grande version!!!!!!
Now for something I was looking for … for ALONG time the D&H passenger cars in scale length! mind you they are not really what the D&H cars looked like but that is ok... I can live with that. Whats up with the dome car? why the yeller? and D&H did not have dome cars?
The GN Pacific is calling my name, I may have to order one too

Ah and the dreaded Acela set... its like a boat... never works right, and you just keep pouring money and time into it...
And I fell off my chair when I saw this one... LOL!!!
I have the original one still under my layout with the expansion cars if someone wants one... I will make you a GREAT DEAL!!!

I should have purchased these from the beginning:

I think Lionel missed the mark on the Ski Train... very nice but where is the locomotive? If I missed out before I will never find the engines now!

The new vision line box car is interesting but not really a road name I have to have... the MP maybe?
Not sure if I even need a car that does all this?

And one item very note worthy of Lionel expanding their "vision" are these building kits. Bravo! I would like to see more of this.
Now if you could buy engine parts and mix and match your engine... sort of build your own with purchased add on details for your own road... now they are on to something....

If any of you are still tuned in, the Youtube channel "Model Train Talk Podcast" is doing a live review of the catalog. Give it a watch if you are able.
Now, this is a group of younger enthusiasts. I follow them because I am interested in seeing how the younger crowd views our hobby. They of course have a completely different perspective and so far they are enthusiastic. it is easy for us to be critical of Lionel, but if you step back, they produce some amazing products (quality could use a boost).
The big question is, where do they get the money for all of these trains??

Thanks for the tip Adam. I’m tuning in now to the Model Train Talk live podcast and agree it’s great to see younger guys interested, and get their take on the catalog and hobby in general. They are pretty well-informed too, giving some thoughts and historical perspective on the PRR K-4.

I'm on the fence about pre ordering but I love this 4-4-0. I'm also ok with it being blue tooth.

On the fence here too. It’s not so much the catalog itself that puts me off - although there are at least a couple of bloopers in it and/or the online Lionel descriptions of the new models. It’s the lack of confidence in Lionel delivering decent products when they are so careless with their own publicity and the hit and miss aspect of recent QC.
This Veranda Turbine is probably the only thing really tempting:
I have the TMCC version and I am not keen to let go of it. On the R&D catalog show they referred to various issues with the TMCC version and how the Legacy version has been substantially “re-engineered”. The original has an early TMCC quirk in that you have to turn on and shut down the smoke units manually, rather than them just coming on and going off with the Railsounds system. I have lived with that as the engine is otherwise great. As I agitated with Lionel for a Legacy version I would ordinarily go in for it.
But I’m slightly put out by the fact that although there’s SuperBass in the fuel tender, there’s no mention of sound in the engine itself; the TMCC version has a big speaker right over the fuel tank, which I bet they have quietly eliminated in favor of all sound being in the tender. Not sure I could wire another speaker in the engine if it doesn’t come stock with one. By all accounts SuperBass is really LOUD so this might be academic.

Have studied the new catalog - Only thing that I like the looks of is the grey - UP Veranda. But not at that price point.

Have studied the new catalog - Only thing that I like the looks of is the grey - UP Veranda. But not at that price point. The pre-order prices being advertised are around $300 less than the catalog, which takes this set down to about the equivalent of what the original version cost in 2001 allowing for inflation. But yes, Lionel’s pricing is putting the squeeze on customers and dealers alike, and I find it pretty obnoxious.

For myself, if I actually decided to get an engine from this catalog, I actually like the B&O SD70ACe. But a must have for me is the Coyote / Road Runner aquarium car!!
