We kicked around this subject about a week ago. Today the Big Book was posted and the excitement here appears to be underwhelming judging by no post about it.
Not many years ago it was similar to York, an exciting and anticipated day.
There certainly is something for lots of folks but their credit card limits better be significant.
Take a look at the book and tell us what you think. Please try to be positive. Lionel is basically it for most new O gauge for the majority of consumers.

I will spend more time looking over the weekend, but a couple of things caught my eye.
4-6-0 Camelbacks
But the John Bull sets, now that is something different and interesting. And, damn them, they have a Camden & Amboy set of this engine. One of the historic railroads of interest to me. Dang it, I feel the wallet getting lighter already.

Is it me or is there a lack of O scale rolling stock in it? NYC SW-8 would be nice or the new Mohawk (not at that price) but I won't be ordering anything out of this catalog. Surprised there's no new milk car offerings. Figured they'd have to pay for the new tooling sooner or later.

This is the very first time that nothing in the catalog piqued my interest.
I like the veranda, but I don’t have O72.

The US ARMY Veranda is nice with its nose art that I like but not at that price. There is a Reading & Northern GP30 but at 525.00? Nope. NADA 4 me.

The prices are indeed a problem. Probably going to keep me away as well.
I miss MTH already!

Had the book for a week now. Poor quality and lack of good service/parts would keep me from buying one of their expensive engines. I too noticed the lack of rolling stock.

Maybe a BNSF GP30 but I will have to save up for it.

I really don't have the space or other capacity for much from this but I am very glad to see, and intrigued by, the return of the Veranda Turbine. The only dealer pre-order price I have seen is about $300 less than the catalog price, which is broadly what I expected.
A few days ago, I took the liberty of emailing Lionel to say I was delighted to see this model back after nearly 20 years and ask a slightly technical question about the Legacy sound set. So far no substantive response but at 2 p.m. Central today there is the Ryan 'n Dave Facebook catalog broadcast, which I think I can just about bring myself to listen to in order to find out if there's any info on this model, and a couple of other offerings, they will add to what's in the catalog itself.
(I'll obey Bill's injunction not to be negative but I fear that there is a possible product description clanger about this model. The catalog says it has a die cast body, as the original TMCC version does. However, Lionel's online product description, which I think is what gets distributed to dealers for their pre-order web pages, only mentions die cast trucks, pilot and fuel tank. Hmmmmm. But the construction, if actually ABS for the body shell rather than die cast, is bound to be mentioned in the catalog show.) Late P.S. The engine body IS die cast, like the original. This year’s catalog clanger appears to be for the 2-10-10-2, which will NOT have an extra smoke feature (pop-off valves) despite having three smoke units.
Across the main O Gauge forums, there's been a fair amount of anticipation about this catalog fueled by the usual, and probably deliberate, leaks. It exceeds my expectations although it is a very mixed bag.

Paula and I were talking about lack of excitement and the cause. Also what can change it.
1. Age - many in this group are old (over 65) which can lead to
2. Enough already - if it doesn’t really call my name, no thanks. I have plenty.
3 High cost/not affordable or not worth the $$$ to me - costs continue to increase, value of the dollar is decreasing
4. Nothing there for me - but probably more related to 1 and 2 given the size of the catalog
5. Perception that Lionel’s Q C is awful - we read about the bad and run the good. I wonder how bad it really is. We are at 25%+ a problem for the last 3 years. It has significantly dampened our enthusiasm.
What can Lionel change in the above???
Quality control - it casts a blanket over all things new for Lionel.
BUT, the rest is demographics. It is easy to see why Mike chose to get out. Long term outlook I appears to be quite difficult.

I thought we were meant to be positive? But I have to agree about the highlighted comments above. I'll see if I feel any more energized by the impending catalog broadcast.

I thought it the best in years. But for sure bigger trains and bigger $$. The New Hope set is really gorgeous though.
For us small operators some holiday engines and lots of starter sets. Odd, no separate sale cabeese and only one O gauge passenger set. No separate sale passenger cars either.

My first thought getting the catalog - wow that is a thick catalog. Made it through everything in one sitting but like Adam I will go through it again this weekend.
What stood out: Believe it or not - the Milwaukee Road, Santa Fe and PE Acela sets. Not sure why but after a 2nd look something stood out. A couple of the camel back models also caught my eye.
I did notice they threw in a few new accessories to some of the sets. They just needed to paint them to match. Good way to make a buck but the price is still ouch!

Almost forgot about the 2750 New York Central Pacemaker and expansion set. Not going to happen on a phone repair tech salary..
