I was looking at my Lionel Evans auto carriers and decided I don't car for the included autos.
The autos on this one are a little better but still very poor.
When I was a kid I though these autos were so wonderful but they look crummy compared to the die cast cars on my layout so I looked on the layout for cars that would fit into the auto carrier. I found some and will look for more. These cars look way better but then I wondered, what should I do the the autos that came with the cars?
I looked around and saw one of my Lionel double door boxcars and decided to try to fit the cars into the boxcar. It's a tight squeeze but they fit so I added a quickie floor to one car to see how it would look.
It's not really right but I think it looks a lot better than an empty car with a black floor. This car has a plastic floor with some raised nubs. I didn't want to modify the floor by removing the nubs so I glued the paper floor down as best as I could. I'm pretty pleased with how the car looks and will do a better job on the next one.
So what do you think of my auto boxcar load? Is it passable?

Unique idea, Joe. The new flooring looks good.
By upgrading the cars on the car carriers, it will make a world of difference how they look on your layout. Cheap is cheap, you can't hide it. Nice models will be much more realistic.

Good idea and a win win situation. Please show us the car carriers with the different cars. Any particular brand used?
We have a couple of MTH cars and I think they have nicer looking autos.. I will check later today.
Thanks.

I will check later today. Thanks. Bill, I'll take photos of the Lionel Evans Auto Loaders later and post them. I didn't use any particular brand of cars.
These are the two MTH Railking Auto Loaders I have. They use Ertl cars that are much, much nicer than the plastic cars Lionel uses. Actually, the Railking car is way nicer overall but I had one of the Lionel cars when I was a boy and they hold a nostalgic place in my heart so I needed a few of them.

The floor looks good, did you glue it in? For a more realistic floor you could use strip wood from Michaels and other places.
The diecast cars will always look better.

Joe I'm in tear down mode, to rebuild, but I have 7 of the double decker car carriers by Rail-King. And I have 1 by K-Line, Then I have 10 Flats with 2 cars on each by Rail-King and 2 by K-Line. I bought them for use of the cars on my layout, but I have way more than I need with out them I think, so I will have a car lot some were and park some of these behind it like there there to be unloaded to the car lot. May have to make a dead end with a ramp as in unloading cars.

The '59 Dodges look MUCH better, plus they are the same brand and year. It drives me nuts to see '51 Buicks with '55 Fords.

You sure make the point with your photos, Joe.
