Rockymountaineer, Excellent points all around! Hopefully Bill gets an answer and you can take it home soon. It sure beats finding the problem at home and having to open a trouble ticket with Lionel yourself.

Hey Tom, I just noticed the color of the marker lights on your T1 is white. When we checked out the model at the store today, the one marker light was green and the other was dark. Is there an option to change the marker light colors on these steamers? Thx!!!

Is there an option to change the marker light colors on these steamers? Thx!!! In the manual it has a section regarding this. I did it on the first day I ran. Green marker lights is ok, but I like white more. I believe if memory serves correctly it was something to do with holding down the Aux2 for some seconds or selecting the Aux3 button. Anyway, I hope you get to enjoy your Conrail 2101!! It sure is a beauty + by pressing Aux1 you get the 5 whistles and 5 bells. I love the paint this Locomotive has. I run it quite a few times a week on our museum layout.

I decided to treat myself to the Conrail T1 locomotive at Hennings Trains in PA, because I’m committed to helping local businesses survive. It might cost a few dollars more, but I save in shipping costs AND the guys at the shop will test the locomotive right in front of me. Unfortunately, one of the front marker lights on the boiler is dark on the only model they have in the store’s inventory. So Bill is gonna look into it for me, before I take this gem home. Everything else checked out fine. Too many quality issues these days to risk mail-order or online purchases of the big-ticket items. Plus it’s nice to support a local train shop that’s a nostalgic throwback to my childhood days. David, I have the same situation with Roundhouse South Electric Trains in Port Orange, Fl. Tony, the owner, checks each engine on the store layout before a customer walks out with it. It's a 4 hour drive round trip and costs a little bit more than buying from an online discount retailer but it's worth it since I know my loco works and is in perfect condition before I walk out the door. It's worth paying a little extra for good customer service.

I'd go through Brasseur's for train purchases if their customer service and stock were better. Last time in the store I was ignored for almost 20 minutes while the guy chatted about BS with his buddy.

It is a pretty engine and blue is my favorite color. BUT this is about a favorite train. Are we going to be like so much of America and decide that our heritage not only is meaningless but is also bad? We disparage the Y6B and silly 3000 Santa Fe and decide we like a fake blue coated piece of steel that never was and never will be.
No offense, I think it is @ pretty engine but deserving of this honor... no way. Come on guys, in one place you want an engine with no motor and Little Toot and here it is a Lionel wannabe-never been.
How about some real trains? The Southern Crescent, Powhatan Arrow, El Capitan, Pacific Fruit Express, Rocky Mountaineer, Train of Tomorrow, Capitol Limited, Silver Meteor, Hiawatha, Zephyr, Pocahontas, N and W A led coal train, NS ES44 led consist container train, Orient Express, Texas Special, C P Holiday Train, and there are plenty more. Real trains that had real people going to real places.
And don’t forget, this is America. Sorry, but let other countries have their own contest. This is about the USA.
Come on team leaders, wake up and read your own words. You have some fantastic choices so get it right.

By the way.... Bill Henning told me that this locomotive isn't as much a fantasy as some folks would like to believe. True it never existed... BUT it was the next steamer to be decorated as such before a fire destroyed the real locomotive. Apparently drawings and paint schemes for this were, in fact, completed and ready to go before disaster struck. So while this is technically a fantasy locomotive, the drawings and paint diagrams were very real... and Lionel reportedly used them to create this colorful model.

Thanks David, I didn't know that. It's too bad the engine was destroyed. It would have been a spectacular locomotive.

Yes, this paint on this T1 is correct to the way the real 2101 was going to be.

Received a call today from Bill Henning at Henning's Trains. Much to my delight, they were able to fix the issue with a dark marker lamp after all. Turns out a wire had become crimped and disconnected. So a little soldering and shrink tubing solved the issue, and I'm planning to pick it up tomorrow. Looking forward to adding this to my roster. And I'm glad they were able to fix the problem locally vs. shipping the locomotive back to Lionel.
Hennings is a first-class, family-run shop, and they also sponsor the North Penn O-Gauge club and its modular layout. Check them out when you're in the southeastern portion of PA. The store is located in Lansdale, PA.
