Title says it all... I've actually been to quite a number of these NJ train stations throughout very different chapters of my life. Enjoy!!!

Neat article. Been to many of them myself.
I used to get my paycheck in Madison Station, via company mail that was carried out from Hoboken on a train. The interiors of these stations tend to be just as awesome at the exteriors.
Hoboken Terminal is not quite as pristine as the others. The ravages of hurricane Sandy are still evident through out the terminal...many years later.

Great article. I grew up in the Amboys and only learned about the historic Camden-Amboy years later. Really fun to learn more about NJs railroad history.

Never realized New Jersey had so many and still quite a few well-maintained and looking good today. Good article. 👍

Just saw this. I'm VERY familiar with the Bernardsville station since I attended high school there from 1956 to 1960. We rode the train from Peapack-Gladstone every day, then took the half-mile walk to Bernards High. My house was a quarter-mile walk to the Peapack station (one station away from the end of the line). The Gladstone station was used in the movie "The Miracle Worker", and my mother had a bit part as a nun on board the train.

I grew up in Bernardsville in the 1960’s, and my Mom would often visit her sister in Peapack. So we always took the train. Her sister’s house was like yours — just a short walk from the Peapack Station. Those trips were my first exposure to REAL trains... and the rest as they say is history. 😉

Cool. Riding the old “Wicker Liners” , the DL&W MU electrics. Before the installation of the newer signal systems in the 1980’s, the Gladstone Branch was mostly operated by time table authority. It was pretty complicated and the train crews and station operators really had to know their stuff to keep the trains moving and apart! A few years ago, I held the first passenger job out of Gladstone that started at 4:00am. We ran between Gladstone and Summit as a shuttle. The Gladstone branch is one of the nicest lines to run on. Very scenic. We used to get lunch at the Bernardsville station that was converted into a restaurant. Tom

This is a great article. The Red Bank and Matawan stations were both built in 1875 and were the same exact structures. Time wasn't kind to Matawan.

If you made a left onto Main St., and walked toward the center of town, our's was the first street on the right... Highland Ave.
