I always liked the look of the Lionel H16-44 FM locomotives. I looked at many for sale that were equipped with TMCC. I found a nice one on EBay. It was a Central Railroad of New Jersey version, in the freight engine green. Well, the engine arrived and I had it for 29 days. I had been busy and never checked out until the 29th day. It turned out that it wouldn’t run or make any sounds. So, just before the 30th day (end of the return period) I emailed the seller and shipped it back. They quickly refunded my money. I sort of figured it would quickly reappear on EBay but it didn’t. Two months later, it showed up. The auction stated that it had repair work done on it and that it was good to go. There were various details missing, but I figured I could source them and add them back on eventually. It was back on EBay and the buy now price was cheaper than the first time that I bought it. I snatched it up, along with a H16-44 shell that had most of the parts I would require. It arrived in good order and, true to the dealer’s word, it operates perfectly. It needs some TLC for sure. It needs new piping around the fuel tank and one of the marker light housings was missing. The donor shell gladly donated the marker housing. After repainting it to match the engine, it was installed. The dealer was Trainz. One of the foot boards is missing too. Lionel no longer stocks the pilots for the engine, so I may have to go with an aftermarket detail part to replace it. So for now, it is a work in progress... Tom

Tom, you’ve obviously given this engine lots of TLC and it shows. That’s a nice looking locomotive.

Looks good Tom. My first Legacy was a PRR H16-44. If needs a new board, but it ran great before that.

That Baby Trainmaster shows beautifully in the CNJ freight green Tom. There are so many examples when a simpler paint job just pops out at you. This is one of those times! Enjoy, Gary.

Thanks men.
I was able to order a new fuel tank, hopefully it comes with the intricate piping already attached. I looked for the one missing footboard but no one really makes a proper looking one. So I either find a Lionel one or replace all four with etched versions that I can obtain.

Trainz is an interesting dealer. I have bought from them numerous times. I have had a few clunkers that they returned no questions asked.
As Tom stated, they make the repairs and put them back up for sale. I was fortunate to buy a couple of the repaired at a much lower price than the original purchase.
Good to see it worked out for you Tom.

Thanks, Jeff.
I have bought a lot from them and this engine was my first dud. It is kind of a hard road name to find in the engine, so I was glad to get it back. They are a great dealer.
I opened it up tonight and installed YLB. I noticed the new boards they installed, were not totally seated on the mother board. A bit of tweaking and it runs nice. Just waiting on some exterior detail parts at this point.

Thanks Joe. The CNJ was a popular road around here. This engine is a good example of the power they owned...very diverse.
