I have that PRR Q1 engine too but have not heard/run it in a long time. It was one of the first 3rd Rail engines I got and saw lot of use at that time.
With all the fuss lately about no articulated sounds in Lionel’s latest VL Challenger, it’s very interesting to be reminded what were standard steam sounds for this model. I have no idea what the prototype sounded like, either in terms of chuffs or whistle. But the unique running gear of it and this model are really fascinating - moreso than the TMCC sound effects. So is the perfect slow speed running, a product of 3rd Rail’s drive train.

My 3rd Rail Erie Berkshire. Just a display for now.... I would love to pick up one of the Erie cabooses they put out a few years ago, to go with it! Tom

Thanks Emile. It was one of those engines I told myself I would buy if the right one came along. My only reservation about this engine is that it is very delicate compared to a Lionel or MTH locomotive. The details are easily damaged if you don’t handle it right.

Out of my price range and too big for my curves. Same with me Denny, way too expensive and won’t run on my layout.

I had the pleasure some years ago to meet Scott at his facility in San Ramon, CA when I lived in that area. I called the office, inquired and they invited me over. Got to see their repair center and test tracks. And a lot of stock!
My High Iron K4 from 3rd Rail was recently upgraded to ERR from the EOB electronics. Been very happy.
