Oh Boy... SOW. What a nice gift today. I so appreciate Brian's opening and such kind words from him and all of you.
It has been a long week and despite 45 tests, they still have not figured out what happened to me. In a nutshell, Sunday morning after walking my Lab Zeke, we got home and I started having chills and shivering. Went back to bed to warm up and it just got worse. Kathy took my temperature and it had spiked up to 102+. She quickly got me into the car and we headed to the hospital. I pretty much collapsed there and ended up spending 4 days. They brought the fever done to normal and filled me with antibiotics. Within 24 hours it was all over. They held me for three more days to test and verify that my vitals were stable. I met with my Primary Care physician today and he told me "We don't know what happened, every test came back negative, but you have recovered very quickly and let's be happy with that." It was one of the most tramatic experience of my life. Of course I was worried about the Covid and that was negative. Enough said and Thank You for your well wishes. OGF is in many ways my friendship home. I love that about this forum.
On to the trains. Yes, the Santa Fe of the 1940s and 50s is my favorite stable. It is simply a beautiful piece of equipment and it was a very successful RR. My layout started in the 50s era and has grown into the modern era. So that brings me to Amtrak. I frequently ride the Amtrak down to NY and the North East corridor is close to our company so I see it running. The Canadian Pacific came into my life when I was researching the 1850s landmark structures multiple railroad companies were building to entice wealthy individuals on to their trains. The Canadian Pacific was one of the first and they were trying to bring customers to the Western regions of Canada. They built the stunning Banff Springs hotel in Western Canada. I saw the building and had a large space that had not been developed and it offered a beautiful opportunity to bring the Rocky Mountains into my stone basement. It was an achievement I was very proud of. I bought many of the K-Line Canadian Pacific F3s and a beautiful set of K-line passenger cars. Eventually Lionel put out a Legacy CP F3 and that now runs my consist. Additionaly, I recently added the Canadian National, as seen in Josef's video, to my oversized consist of distilation towers.
I will be posting pictures soon and love those you have displayed. That damn MTH Santa Fe sure looks beautiful. I hope some day to find a way to collect it.
The picture below is my wife Kathy, daughter LeAnne and my big boy Zeke. They are standing on the side walk looking up to my room and we are talking over the phone. It is daughting to be hospitalized and not to have any visitors. Thank God I was spared from the Covid.
