When the catalog comes out I will look through it because it's always fun to look through a new catalog but I have no intention of buying anything from it.

Hi folks,
If you want a sneak-preview of Lionel's 2020 V2 catalog due out on 7/15, check the PRE-ORDER section of Nassau Hobbies website. Appears that they're in the process of uploading the new products as we speak. Not too many illustrations yet, but the product entries are there. Look for the "NEW" banner in the upper left corner of an entry, and I believe those are the items being introduced in the new catalog.
Nothing super exciting jumps out at me yet, but I'm admittedly in a very different place nowadays with respect to new purchases. For those not into navigating websites, you might wanna just wait for the catalog's official release on Wednesday... less than 48 hours away... because the website is often slow.
P.S. If you're into the expensive stuff, sort the pre-orders by price. New steam offerings on the high end include a Pennsy S1 6-4-4-6, a variety of 2-8-8-2 locomotives, as well as re-issues of some cab-forwards (including the SP Daylight scheme). Again, not all the images are there (yet), and it's painful to browse a catalog this way. But if you absolutely must peek, you know where to look (for now).

Thanks for the link, David, but I'll wait for Wednesday since I doubt there will be anything in this catalog that will entice me.

No problem, Joe. However it seems the new catalog entries have been removed... most likely placed into a pre-staging directory where they should have been placed in the first place. In my younger days, I would have had the perseverance to page through the entire list to see what's being introduced. But aside from a few pages of browsing, I just didn't have it in me to page through everything in such a slow, painful fashion -- not to mention many images weren't uploaded yet anyway. Sign of the times, I guess.
So we'll see what's unveiled Wednesday in the official online version of the catalog. But it's gonna take one fabulous offering before I spend another dollar on new trains these days.

Hot off the press. I looked at those Nassau pages as well although by no means all of them. If they've disappeared it makes no difference because meanwhile, as in the last couple of hours, I have stumbled across a couple of things that, if you are interested, give an insight not only to the catalog but the current state of Lionel and the 3rail O scale market generally.
The below webpage address is of a Lionel YouTube video that was streamed live earlier today (Emile will understand these things, I don't) from a virtual LCCA event in which Ryan, wearing a mask, steps through the catalog fairly comprehensively. He is preceded by Howard Hitchcock (not masked) giving a kind of keynote address. WARNING: You have to skip the first 15 minutes which was nothing more than a clock counting down and Howard does not get into anything not of purely LCCA interest until 25:15. He spends a minute on MTH at 31:00, turns to something far more interesting (innovation and in particular Bluetooth 5) at 32:00 and then Ryan's part starts at 39:00
www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDX7Hl7H5RU
I am not embedding the video in this post as it's too long and frankly I don't want to do anything that trespasses on OGF bandwidth - especially if it's Lionel social media, which generally annoys me. You can click on/copy and paste the text to get to the video. I must say I am a little surprised Lionel has posted it on their channel before the catalog release date.
I'll reserve comment on the content Ryan explained until I have absorbed it and might start a separate thread for that if I think it's of wide interest. I only found some of the products interesting but the stated commitment to innovation and quality control were somewhat consoling. The other thing is that on the OGR Forum someone has posted screenshots of various slides Ryan used but the images are fairly poor - especially of the fine print, which we all know matters if only to spot the errors!

I remember Christmas excitement with the new Sears catalog and trains! But that was last century, and while I did buy some NP rolling stock during either MPC or Fundimensions (9770?), I have purchased no engines or rolling stock new since then. If I need something (rare) either it's given to me (lots!) or I buy used. Last "free" stuff was 50 GarGraves switches, machines, 300-400 feet of GarGraves track, a postwar Erie FM, a 225E with 675 donor, and a complete 226E with postwar tender trucks. Then the GM diesel switchers, and where do I PUT all this stuff? And the set of NP aluminum passenger cars? And the Kasiner passenger cars? And the 50 gang cars, and the 60 trolleys? Nutz.

Received an E-Mail from brother who indicated he heard Lionel was offering the NYC Xplorer train set in their next catalog. Wonder if they will have the correct engine to pull these cars, the Baldwin RP-210 if so?

I'm not sure what's correct but they are offering this:There's some odd - I mean innovative - stuff in this catalog, not all of which has been revealed yet. Apparently they are holding back a couple of steamer announcements but those will probably be leaked tomorrow.

Interesting catalog. I may be up for a couple of items. They still need to spend money on tooling. a new pilot here and there is just not going to cut it...

Come on David, we know better than this. About Friday you won’t be able to stand it. Bill, I didn't say I wouldn't buy ANYTHING... just that my purchasing nowadays is scaled down so much from my earlier days, dealers still ask me, "Is that all you're buying this time???". I'm still old-fashioned and place most of my orders by phone. What can I say....
I did scan through Lionel's LCCA video today (thanks for posting the link, HB), and two items caught my eye: the Reading & Northern 4-6-0 (with whistle-steam) and the Bethlehem Steel Genset switcher. To pre-order or not... THAT is the question though, because coloring would need to be right. In particular, the Genset "yellow" would need to be correct -- not cheap-looking like the yellow paint on Lionel's recent autorack cars. Same thing with the R&N blue... I'd want to see it, before committing funds. Neither of these goodies are super-expensive. But if I do pre-order, I'll use Charlie Ro... because Charlie has never given me a difficult time (in nearly 50 years), if I need to exchange a pre-order that's not up to standards.

Very disappointed. Not even close. Just another attempt at fooling those unaware with a paint job and decals to represent a very unique engine
