With all that is going on in the world today, we have an excellent constant, our O-Gauge trains and layouts. We get to think about them, work on our layouts, plan and dream about new purchases, and in short, have some pleasant thoughts most days. The kind of "good" therapy found nowhere else.
I get up most mornings thinking about what on the layout I want to accomplish that day. Much better for you than sitting in an easy chair watching TV and eating bon-bons.
Your thoughs?

We no longer watch nor listen to the news. Programs we want to watch are recorded the commercials fast forwarded. We average 8 to 10 hours a week to TV, but yet we devote 18 to 21 hours on layout. Sometimes me and wife will just sit and read a book with the trains on 3 tracks coming and going. The sound is soothing and relaxing.

I could not agree more Brian.
This hobby, with is many facets, is very much my escape.
Work, family issues, politics, health or anything else just fades into the background when I am focused on trains or the layout.

I am completely with you on this Brian. The train room is the one place I go and everything else is knocked away. There is no TV or radio and the computer is for our security system. There is no skirting the difficulties many face, but a train room can give you the relief, if only for a few hours.

I also agree, on the escape front as much as anything else. At present I generally don't get very much time running trains but I do plan in detail few a projects for when things return to a greater level of normality - which by my reckoning will not be until around Christmas . . .
Meanwhile, to help relieve my current predicament, I have a Trainworx structure on the way to provide something I have wanted a long time (a station). The Train Dame sent me this pre-shipping photo of the completed model:
This was completed well before the time I thought it would be shipped and I may not see it for a while, but I console myself thinking that I am supporting a US business.

Couldn't agree more. With the disgusting events happening today in our country my layout simple as it is, is my escape if only for a while.

I’ve often thought that trains are a nice escape but also a healthy outlet. Trains are a lot less expensive and a lot less damaging than drinking or drugging or gambling or womanizing, etc. Our hobby/outlet is good for us, our marriages and something we can share with other people to spread a little happiness.
