It's summertime and we have several items left on our to-do list designed to greatly improve our layout.
So, what's on your list.

Hoping to have the new basement finished here soon. Painting the ceiling black is next. Then carpet. Then floor and door trim. Finish with painting and I'm ready to build a layout! Lots of thanks goes to forum member Charlie (MichRR714) and other members of the Detroit 3 Railers for helping me get to this point. - Jason

"Then carpet."
Have you considered laminate flooring instead of carpet? I only mention this in case you intend to use a creeper under the layout for the wiring project. Carpet does not work so well with a creeper, but the laminate works great and is much easier to keep clean. I think it looks better as well.
Just a thought.

Carpet does not work so well with a creeper, but the laminate works great and is much easier to keep clean. I think it looks better as well. Just a thought. So my plan is to use carpet tiles. One reason being comfort. It gets very tiring standing for long periods on concrete or any kind of hard floor in my opinion. Second reason that, Even though I've done a lot of water prevention, just in case water finds its way into the basement I can replace the tiles effected instead of tearing wall to wall carpet out. Third is that I just like the look and feel of carpet in a basement and under a layout. I also don't use a creeper when doing my wiring. My layout height will be 3 ft off the ground which is plenty of room for me to crawl under and all around. - Jason

I have 2 or 3 locos that need routine maintenance and one that needs repair. In addition to that I have people to put into my 20th Century Limited passenger cars and of course there is plenty of scenery refinements to take care of.

I have a new foldup piece for the basement door. 3/4 lumberply, cut out in the middle with another section screwed and glued below for a river. I now have two lift out truss and girder sections to remove, this will allow unplug one side (safety wired) and just fold it up. Have the hinges, will make a hang-down stop off the main support beam for it to rest against when lifted. Then rocks, paint, resin pour, track and bridges, ballast, and grass (plus a rowboat I have saved) and should be good to go.

Making track plans and paper, and cardboard cuts for a layout change. Found a few and laid out on garage floor to see if I will like and what operations I can do with it. Still undecided.

A black painted ceiling is the way to go. Everything disappears from sight and you pay less in taxes too. Looking Good Jason, Gary.

I have moved over to the PE side of the layout. I am working on the following projects: 1. Add additional lighting to the "Center of the North Pole". 2. Add a 100 string light set to the large Christmas Tree installed at the "Center of the North Pole". 3. Light 17 D56 Pole Pine Trees along the front edge of the PE layout. That's about 900 new lights. Good thing they are all small LED's.

I have been refreshing my scenes. The grandkids move the people and pick the pumpkins out of the patch, they all have to be refreshed. Also repaired a couple of switches and rebuilt one of my ZW transformers. My big projects are finisheg the last 2 scenes on the east side. The Lionel 497 coal station and the Refinery tank storage area. The last project is installing my signals I bought this past winter.
