I have this intermodal crane and I have seen it on a few layout videos (looking at you, Laz). I have had the cracked gear (if you have used it, you have had this problem, too).
My question is, do you use it? I have found that picking up the containers and unloading them accurately is a hit or miss (mostly miss) proposition.
I am contemplating removing it in favor of a different, static scene.
would appreciate hearing your thoughts/experiences.

Fab, I have a cracked gear in my intermodal crane and will sell it to you cheap. Originally I liked this unit and had a good deal of fun with it. Plus it looks cool. That being said, I did clear the space and put in the Englewood Station and River Leaf apartments. In order to have a legit scene you need multiple double stack cars with tracks and it takes up a lot of room. I just decided something else would look better. It is sitting on a shelf..

That's a bummer on the space needed. I was thinking about getting one. Will these work with the TTUX cars?

I had the gear fixed long ago. Was just observing that it was a common problem. I was more interested in how people found it to use. I find it challenging and often frustrating.

Lift the cars and they would not be square and capszeed out of the lift hooks. Also movint the cars left or right or the crane forward and back had to be carefully done. Sometimes it would jackrabbit if you didn't control it carefully. I still like the appearance of the unit and you could make a great scene, but as I said before with a lot of room.

R J, this will give you an idea of the space needed. I have a through siding and an area next to that track for container storage/transfer. Note a couple of things. I constructed guides for the wheels by building up the area on each side to make a trench. This really helps keeping the crane tracking. The other thing i did was raise the containers in the storage area off the ground so that they would be easier to pick up. That being said, I have decided to remove it. It requires more precision to operate than it is capable of giving.

Thanks for posting the pic!
