Always a favorite follow-up to October York is none other than the great Allentown ATMA train show. This year's dates are Nov 9-10, and weather looks promising.
I will have my usual U-shaped booth with all kinds of wonderful items looking for a new home. This time my tables are SI-4,5,6... which are towards the Northwest corner of the older building near the modular train layouts, small snack bar, restrooms and train races. It's the complete OPPOSITE corner from the show's main entrance doors... which are the Southeast corner of the newer building. So don't spend all your money, before you make it to my booth!!!
I will be bringing trains in all price ranges... and all great bargains. I posted in the OGF buy/sell forum a mere fraction of what I'll be bringing -- updated from my York virtual bandit meet thread. If you see something that calls your name, let me know. It's a great show to save big and save significant shipping costs on larger items.
And if you visit on Saturday, be sure to leave time to stroll through the Farmers Market for a few goodies to take along for the ride home.
Hope to see some of you there. Be sure to stop by and say "Hello".

If not a 6 hour round trip with an earlier sunset now I would make the journey just to say that I did. It is a great show with a wide variety of train goodies to ponder. When I do show up my car was never empty on the way home, and not with Farmer's market treats!
Highly recommended if you are on the fence.

The Allentown "first frost" show is a favorite. While my layout is fully built and my collection is overstocked, I still love mixing with the folks and looking for miscellaneous train items. The selection of trains is vast and you never know what shows up there. You will find many dealers that do not attend York. Daves tables selection is quite large and his prices are excellent. The Farmers Market across the way makes it a must event and allows me to take my wife out for the day, In addition to trains we regularly come home with foods that can include fresh made chicken pies, fruits, vegetables, Amish specialties. ethnic foods, meats, poultry and baked goods.

I will be there Sunday. Allentown is the halfway point for me and family in NJ. So, we typically meet at the show and then head over to Valentino's in Kutztown for awesome Italian dinners. Chicken Parm is highly recommended.
Then a stop off at the Allentown and Auburn to see what is new before we say goodby. If it's still daylight my son and I will stop at the Reading and Northern to check out all the power in the yard before continuing home.
True story about Valentinos. One year we had a nearly a dozen family members meet at the show. We all went to Valentino's. As the waitress takes orders, it's Chicken Parm, Chicken Parm, Chicken Parm all the way around the table. I was last and the waitress said, "Let me guess, Chicken Parm". I replied, "No... my wife makes the best chicken parm ever, so I will have the Lasagna". Right on cue, my wife, sitting next to me, slaps me on the shoulder and says, "What's wrong with my Lasagna"?

Post Allentown. It was a great meet, one of the best. The aisles were packed with folks, there were all kinds of trains and in many cases some really excellent prices. While I didn't find anything to add to the layout it was saying hello to old friends from the York days and browsing the tables. As always there was no loss attending. The drive was only 1hr 5 minutes and Paula decided to come to save the day. While I was at the train show she went across the street to the huge Farmers Market and we came home with a trunk full of good foods that included some of the best NY style Bagels in town at Mareks.

Post Allentown. It was a great meet, one of the best. The aisles were packed with folks…. While I was at the train show she went across the street to the huge Farmers Market and we came home with a trunk full of good foods that included some of the best NY style Bagels in town at Mareks. ALWAYS an amazing show!!! Very healthy crowd — especially on Saturday from about 9am-1pm. Sunday crowd kicked in after “church hours”. But I’d characterize Sunday’s crowd more as casual shoppers with plenty of space to stroll the aisles, whereas Saturday prime hours were PACKED elbow-to-elbow.
After we closed up shop on Saturday, I treated myself to a cheesesteak sandwich at arguably THE BEST steak sandwich shop in the Lehigh Valley — The Brass Rail — located in the Farmers Market now.
A longtime Lehigh Valley favorite for DECADES, The Brass Rail once had two locations in its heyday: one in downtown Allentown (not too far from the Fairgrounds), and one in Lehigh St. Now fans can once again enjoy the same great tasty cheesesteaks that rival Philly’s finest at 3 days a week (Th, Fr, Sa) during Farmers Market hours — while transporting you back in time like it was only yesterday.
What a treat! As an added bonus, the owner is behind the grill making the sandwiches. And they are ENORMOUS — much larger than those of years gone by. Mmmm... Mmmm... SO good!!!!

We went Sunday and enjoyed ourselves. My son and I were discussing the things we may have missed Saturday due to going on Sunday. But I said maybe we'll get some Sunday deals. And boy did we...
My son scored a brand new, still sealed in the outer carton, Lionel Legacy Powered FB unit to go with his Legacy AA's for only $100.
I found a brand new #4 LH Scaletrax turnout for $10 that I plan to use to make an industry siding.
Lots of other fun stuff we could have purchased because it was shinny and new, but we were disciplined to focus on items we only wanted from the start.

But how was the chicken parm? HaHa... Outstanding. Ate one piece of chicken and half of the angel hair. Saved the rest for lunch tomorrow. On the way home we stopped by the Reading & Northern. We were drooling over the power in the yard when the Fast Freight went by with a six engine consist. AWESOME!!! Then a bonus today on the way home from the barber. Stuck at this crossing while the train just went back and forth spotting cars. Others may not have been happy. I was thrilled.
