Here's a horrible reddish memory. MTH KDKA Box car signed by the current on air staff at the time. Some old names on there including John Cigna and Fred Honzberger. Hey Marty, your reddish memory looks an awful lot like the reddish glow over your left shoulder in your OGF pic. I like that boxcar. It's really cool. Gary.

Hey Joe, how many pile ups have there been in front of that house?? Gary. Gary, fortunately that house is on a cul-de-sac so there's not a lot of traffic.

Here are some red items from a few years ago: Lionel 2353 Santa Fe F3 Lionel 68 Executive Inspection Car And we should never forget this little gem, that saved The Lionel Corporation from financial ruin in the 30's. As I understand, this car sold with a circle of track for $1.00. Many people couldn't afford a complete train set back then, but they could afford a toy for $1.00. Joshua Lionel Cowen very smartly recognized this, and came up with the Mickey & Minnie Mouse Handcar. They sold roughly 250,000 of them, giving Lionel the cash they needed to survive. Were it not for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, we might not be enjoying our Lionel trains today. This is an original handcar, which has been in my family since the 1960s. John

Andy did you weather the ballast? If so, what did you use. I like it a lot.
We use Dennis’s gray and it doesn’t look this good.

That is a real nice tank car Andy. It shows very well. Gary. Thanks Gary. It’s on the lesser known side, you don’t see this one too often. Andy

The prototype ballast has that brownish look from brake dust etc., so I mixed up some Elmer's white glue with some flat earth brown latex, then diluted it down with water. Gluing ballast is a tedious process as you know, but I like the results. Andy

A cab car from Rev Malcolm who has announced his retirement to be effective this Spring. He plans to work on his layout and attended his first O scale show last weekend. He is quite a gentleman and is the expert on caboose construction.

Here's an illustration of how variable reds can be. These are three of my most run diesels, in particular the Santa Fe AC 6000 in the foreground. Lionel's rendition of the Warbonnet scheme on this, which I believe must be a complete fantasy as the Santa Fe disappeared as an independent railroad before these engines came into service, is in a darker red than the engine behind, a Legacy E8.
The engine at the back is a 3rd Rail Frisco Texas Special E7, which is finished in a red that closely resembles the prototypes as shown in photos I have seen.
There are a lot more obvious differences in loco or rolling stock reds than these and, in particular, in the way the SP Daylight color scheme has been rendered by Lionel and MTH. But I am not picking a fight over that; I run all my SP Daylight models together whenever I can.

I agree with you HB. Our SF ES44's are a different red than our SF AA E6's. Might be a different era/different shade thing. That Texas Special is SUUUUUUUUHWEET!!
Gary.

Here is a RED engine I quite like. Could be the nicest First Responders scheme done so far. Gary and I have come to the conclusion that we probably have enough Freight Diesels but this one may just find a new home. Cheryl.
