Josef, Thanks so much for the above info. I am going for the Oil Distillation tower because that is what is in the video. I have watched the video 20 times and am zeroing in on the parts needed, colors required, piping and division of the tower. Also have done a little research on Distillation Towers. Today I received some of the parts from Plastruck. Quick delivery from the new owner. I ordered one piece at a time so I could see if it fits correctly. Will look at all of this tomorrow and hopefully, order all the parts later in the day. I am learning a lot about something I know little about. This will be fun, looking forward to working on it.

Be sure to add manhole/inspection covers at bottom and each landing and top. These were used to enter and also replace any trays which may have corroded during the year. This was done every "turn-a-round". These trays were referred to as "bubble trays". I have attached a photo of my storage tank and Plastruck makes them. In picture lower left on tank.

Finally the flatcars are here. There will be 3 MTH 47' articulated flats 20-95184, 1 Lionel 50' depressed flat 6-36900 and 3 Menards 50' flats. A total of 7 flats with a length of 425 scale feet which is 98" on the layout. There will be 2 locomotives 1 UP GP 7 and 1 EMD GP 40 which will give it a total 525 scale feet or 130 inches on the layout. I bought the EMD GP 40, new in the box, today in the buy sell board from Jeff. The MTH and Lionel flats were bought on eBay, new in the box. The Menard's flats were new and ordered from Menards. The MTH articulated flats are exactly the same flats I have used for the CAT factory, 16 wheelers. The Lionel depressed flat is a real gem. It is fully diecast including the deck, 16 wheeler and sharp looking. The Menards flats are 8 wheelers and pretty light. I added 12 ounces of weight to the deck which will hold it down in the corners. MTH 47' Lionel Depressed 50' Menards 50'

Wood, this will be an impressive train. The Lionel depressed center flat car is very cool.

I agree Joe. That depressed flat car is cool. Will it handle a FROSTY CAN??

The motive power is here!!! I purchased a new Legacy EMD SD30 from OGF member Jeff T. and I had an old Legacy Amtrak DASH 9. I will do a lot of weathering on both units and the flats. Would like to find a way to remove the Amtrak decals, but we'll see. All parts are ordered from Plastruck. Probably be here early next week.

Wood instead of removing the decals I'd replace the shell on the Amtrak unit. That way you can switch it back to Amtrak if you want.

Thank you R.J. That was a great idea. 20 minutes on the computer and done. Not available at Lionel but found the models that were in the same catalog. Went on eBay found the one I wanted and will have it Wednesday. It is the Canadian National Dash 9 which has a black background with white lettering and red bonnet. It will match the black and white EMD very well. Pictured is not the shell but a stock photo with good real world weathering.

Spent the morning weathering the SD30. Not something I have done before, on a brand new engine, and I was careful only lightly weathering. Powdered with weathering powders and sprayed with a coat of clear Matte finish. From the eye point of view it does look weathered and when the Dash 9 is weathered it will be obvious to viewers. Would like to find a better way to darken the trucks. Nothing seems to stick to them. Any ideas?? Original Weathered

Or acrylic black wash, Diluted and darken with more coats to your liking then seal with a Matte Clear.

I believe he brushed them with Dullcote first. Then he applied weathering compounds. Good Luck Wood, Gary.
