Dear Project3713 Supporters,
With the big Amherst Railroad Hobby Show coming up this weekend, Project3713 will once again have a booth at the huge East Springfield, MA event. Our representatives will be there in section 40 of the Better Living Center to chat with attendees.
And there is a lot to talk about!
If you have been following our website and Facebook page, you have been able to celebrate the progress as it happens. And progress has been happening faster than ever on the restoration including the arrival of the new firebox and tender cistern at the Steamtown back shop.
The latest updates on Facebook include the new stoker rails and the incredible results of the initial tramming measurements of the locomotive's frame.
In 2020 look forward to more new or rebuilt components showing up in Scranton as reassembly work continues. The main focus will be on completing the tender, including the rebuilding of the tender trucks and brake system, rebuilding the tank valves, rebuilding the stoker trough, and applying the tender cistern. Also on this year’s list is checking the locomotive frame for squareness (tramming); receiving and installing the outer roof sheet and backhead braces for the firebox; and finishing up the roller bearing engine (pilot) truck. You can read more details in our end of year newsletter available for download as a PDF.
Project3713 continues to grow a loyal group of volunteers in the shop who have contributed thousands of hours of labor towards the project under the supervision of dedicated Steamtown employees,
Of course, none of their work would not be possible without the many supporters who have donated over the years. Your continued financial support augments the fundraising efforts of Project3713 staff and Steamtown National Historic Site’s funding allocation.
Our October 5th, 2019 Ride the Bloom fundraising excursion on the North Shore Railroad was a success. Funds raised from ticket sales are augmented by a very generous donation from Jeff Pontius whose beautiful Penn Valley Railroad equipment was used on the trip. Look for 2020 trip announcements soon.
What can you do to help keep up the momentum?

And please keep #3713 top of mind for donations, employer grants and annual giving programs. The locomotive needs your support. Information on how to donate may be found at www.project3713.com.
And remember, the restoration shop is part of regular tours at the Steamtown National Historic Site. You are always welcome to visit and see the progress first-hand.
We hope to see you in Scranton!
